Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Purcell.
Hi Morgan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
When I was younger, my nana and I spent quite a bit of time together. She used to take photos of all her grandchildren for fun. Whenever I’d be around her, she was constantly taking photos of everything. She would let me use her camera to take my own photos, and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I’ve always had this creative bone in my body and had to constantly be doing something. . . making crafts, painting, scrapbooking or taking photos. I was always presented with and encouraged by opportunities to express my creativity. As I grew older, I realized I was mostly drawn to photography. I started taking more photos of friends and family in high school. After that, many people began viewing my work and encouraged me to start a business. I decided to give it a go and have been consistently booked and making a living for the past three years now. I feel very blessed to capture milestones of many different individuals’ lives as my job!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Going into a business that I created myself, I didn’t have many expectations. I knew that there could always be bumps in the road, so going in with an open mind really has helped. From starting as nothing and learning and advancing things on my own, I think things have gone as smooth as they could have. I’m extremely proud of how much I’ve grown to learn. There has been many trial and errors that have been slight hiccups, but I’ve used my creativity to overcome them, learn from them, and move on.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Morgan Purcell Photography?
I am a photographer who specializes in portrait photography. I love capturing moments of people’s lives and telling their story through photos. I enjoy learning about people and their stories. I think this helps me connect and make people feel comfortable where I am able to capture their true selves. I am most proud of the connections I’ve made and also finding my style and flow in photography.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I always say I have never been the one has good luck on my side. I tend to draw the wrong straw, which just goes alongside my clumsy and goofy way of life anyways. I’m not sure I’d say I’ve had good luck in my business but that I’ve put a lot of work and effort into making it happen. Maybe there has been some luck alongside, but I’d say it’s been lots of determination and hard-earned effort that’s created my success!
